Services Swedish Massage known as the foundation of western massage, incorporates long fluid, gliding strokes and muscle kneading using massage lotion. Its goal is to increase blood and lymph circulation throughout the body, to facilitate the release and movement of toxins out of the body, while activating the parasympathetic nervous system-encouraging relaxation and stress reduction, and prepares the body for deep tissue work.
Deep Tissue Massage as it relates to western massage, incorporates specific, direct finger/elbow pressure and slow strokes to contracted, tight areas or what we commonly know as "knots" along and across bands of muscles, tendons, and fascia. Its goal is to loosen muscle fibers from its holding pattern while breaking up and eliminating scar tissue, thus, releasing toxins and encouraging better blood and oxygen flow into the area. During this time, I encourage feedback to my depth of pressure used, as I believe, to work beyond one's pain threshold is counterproductive to the session. Working beyond the pain threshold may trigger the muscles to seize and tighten further inhibiting the purpose of the work. Myofascial Release Therapy - This modality of massage addresses the restrictions of the muscle fascia of the body. The fascia is a connective tissue network that is found throughout the body. It surrounds all the muscle groups, the individual muscles, the muscle fibers and each muscle cell. Since the fascia is a network, even very superficial work is beneficial on the deepest of levels. The fascia can become restricted, hindering movement and relaxation of the muscles. This technique identifies and releases restrictions in the fascia. It can be used in combination with other massage modalities or it can be a session in and of itself. Myofascial Release is a very slow, non-invasive technique that also produces a profound level of relaxation. Aromatherapy Massage - The use of essential oils extracted from botanical substances which aid in relaxation. Each oil contain distinct properties that produce different therapeutic effects. The oils can be blended to rejuvenate, calm, relax and revitalize. Aromatherapy massage will extend the benefits of the massage by allowing the essential oils to linger and balance your body, mind and spirit. Hot Stone Massage - A variation on classic massage therapy which uses heated smooth stones to warm and relax the muscles. The stones also improve circulation and calm the nervous system. The stones are placed on various areas of the body and also held by the therapist during the massage. |
